Loooooooooooong time since I have blogged and I'm honestly sorry to any die-hard ritzkini blogpsot watcher but there was a reason...like the legendery ABBA track-MONEY! MONEY ! MONEY ! ..must be funny,In a rich man's world..Well,I'm definitely not rich, not by a long way,anyway...
Spent the most part of last week becoming a member at the British Library and renewing it at my fav. haunt of yesteryear UTTARA...Poring over books and reading books on diverse subjects has been an interesting pastime for me at most times but last week took the cake by a long way..."Lateral Thinking" by Edward De bono,"Brands-The New Wealth creators" by the ppl at Interbrand,C and Unix UTTARA material with suitable anecdotes and hilarious analogies frm Mr.Sastry,"Wings of the eagles" and "Triple"-both by Ken Follet;I wuld say that's a wide range of topics by anybody's standards....
Was Amazed with the kind of "odd logic" used by Edward De bono in his book "Lateral thinking"..Basically talks abt an alternative method of thinking that is worlds apart from the "vertical thinking"-structured,scietific,step-by-step,coldly logical method that we are all trained at right from School to University....Had heard abt it but never got the chance until last week when I discovered that it lay gathering dust at the HLL,ITPL library !! thanx to Raja for having got it for me eventhough I officially am,out of the "loop"..Of course, this is a wild dream but was just wondering that if I ever do start a company of my own with the ppl that I know-friends,family and any of the well-qualified ppl that I come in touch with almost daily-Maybe this book will be the perfect tool to use when I look at attracting and finding the smart recruits that I will need..Maybe the following ex. will make what I am saying a little clear..For Ex:
A problem is described and keeping a clear mind u r expected to come up with possible answers...
P.A man works in the 15th floor of a tall building...Each morning he used to press the button for the 10th floor and walk from the 10th to the 15th floor..But in the evening he used to take the elevator to the
ground floor..why did he act so in the morning ??
Possible answers from many ppl were:
1.The Man wanted exercise in the morning.
2.He chatted, puffed a smoke with a pal on the 10th floor and later went to his place of work !!
3.He wanted to act as though he worked at the 10th floor since it was a more prestigious office and so the charade !!
All of them indicate the various imaginative ways that the ppl are thinking in and opens the door to a lot of options eventhough they are way of course from the conventional mindstream and that is what the book emphasises on...Actually the answer to the problem was that the man had no choice but to do so ! He was short in stature and couldn't touch the button for the 15th floor !! Having no boundaries to the way u think make u a visinary eventhough it may seem absurd to most ...Refreshing book to say the least and a bible to most leaders of today(It was 1st published in 1970 !!)
Ken Follet's books were both truly brilliant and not worth putting down once u got hooked to it..Probably the closest any author will ever come to Fredrick Forsyth who according to me is the emporer among the writers of today-simply for his keen interest to detail, books based loosely on true incidents and the amt of research undertaken by him to write a single book..."The Fist of god" and " The day of the Jackal" were unbelievably gr8 !!
That's all for now...Back to one more week of dozing, reading and gorging on Mum's food...-I will have to make the most of it in whatever little time is left !!!
