And it makes me Wonder..
Couldnt think of a better title for this post than Led Zepplin's immortal words in "Stairway to heaven"...
No connection though...have been real busy..doing some interesting stuff and a whole lotta boring stuff...
But there's hope...And I shall survive...
anyways...Watched "Black" and...sorry to say that it fell short of expectations..sorry to people who are nuts about the movie..Agreed it's a great movie..fantastic technically...brilliant acting...by rani..the kid-ayesha kapur(somebody said she's Anil Kapoor's daughter.Is she ?) and Amitabh was..oh well...Amitabh bacchan...
But..But..but...after Swades it was a bit of a let-down..Oh sure...u can take the high road and the easy way out by saying that the 2 movies are different genre's altogether blah-blah-blah...but,peoples..these kinda movies are made bcos the director/screenplay-writer wants to give you a message...and its in the message that 'Black' fails...
Ok..agreed..It promotes a sense of compassion towards our not-so-fortunate bretheren...it makes us wonder about our sad, pathetic and selfish lives where our problems and concerns seem so trivial when compared to the daily struggle they go through...
But..my point is simple..and it is this..What did u do after the movie..Do you plan to do anything about the plight of these people ? if the answer is a truthful yes, Great !! I am probably wrong...
But..For the people who said 'yes' and dint actually mean it and the ones who were honest enuf to say 'NO'..the following probably happened..we would have felt sympathy after the movie and not done even a double-take towards the blind man being jostled in the train the next morning bcos we live extremely "busy" lives..
and thats why Swades is different...Swades is for me "white" where BLACK is "black"....it represents hope, positivism and 'lets-work-within-the-system-and-still-emerge-victorious' and motivates you to do something within your power to change this country and the world..it gives you the courage to think"yeah,maybe..just maybe..it is possible !!!"
And that's why I beg to differ...Full marks to Sanjay Leela Bhansali..I take back my words in the post on Swades regarding him...but dear pal,Ashutosh Gowariker created magic with 'hope'..you tried to do it with a plot which suggested.."yeah,we can survive too !! and we can live normally"...which for me is negative(since you are settling for something less than you are capabable of) and so...'BLACK' didnt make me want to see the movie a second time...
